Mexican Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) outpunched Kazakh Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) in 12 rounds of championship boxing for an unanimous decision win at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last Saturday.

The judges scored the fight 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113 all in favor of Alvarez, who successfully closed his trilogy with GGG with another victory.

With the win, Canelo retained his WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles.

Canelo, who looked bigger and more confident than in the previous two fights with Golovkin, had a strong start, outpointing GGG in the first seven rounds. Golovkin tried to make a comeback in rounds eights to twelve as Alvarez got tired.

Golovkin came up short, however, and it seemed odd that he was not utilizing his right hand that much throughout the fight. Ukrainian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko even commented after the match that Golovkin may have a "health problem" during the fight.

Golovkin looked old and slow in this trilogy finale and there was much speculation whether he should retire after this match.
