Don Trollano came back from a one-game rest with a vengeance, delivering a scorching performance that powered San Miguel Beer past the Magnolia Hotshots, 94–92, in a tense PBA Philippine Cup showdown Friday night at the Ynares Center in Montalban.

Trollano erupted for 29 points on an ultra-efficient 11-of-16 shooting, including six crucial markers in the final minutes that sealed the Beermen’s fourth straight win. His late-game heroics allowed San Miguel to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and forge a 4-2 tie with Magnolia and NLEX for third place in the standings.

“I really needed that short break,” said Trollano, referring to his absence in their previous game. “My back was hurting after Dubai, but the rest and practice helped a lot. I just wanted to help the team stay composed in the end.”

And composed they were, even with the game hanging in the balance. Down by four with just over two minutes remaining, Trollano sparked the comeback with an and-one play against Ian Sangalang, followed by a booming four-point shot that flipped the lead to 91–88.

June Mar Fajardo then added a free throw to push the lead to four before Paul Lee nearly spoiled the night for the Beermen, launching a deep triple that rattled out in the dying seconds. Magnolia’s Jerom Lastimosa also missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer, allowing SMB to breathe a sigh of relief and continue its midseason surge.

Behind Trollano’s clutch showing, CJ Perez chipped in 20 points, while Fajardo tallied 18 points and nine rebounds. Their veteran leadership steadied the Beermen when Magnolia’s young guns tried to storm ahead early in the fourth.

The victory marked another statement win for coach Jorge Gallent’s crew, coming on the heels of triumphs over Rain or Shine, Barangay Ginebra, and Converge, a run that has quietly pushed San Miguel back into the championship conversation.

Magnolia, meanwhile, absorbed its second straight nail-biting loss despite Zave Lucero’s monster double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds. Lastimosa added 17, Chris Koon fired 16, and Sangalang chipped in 15 in a balanced but ultimately futile effort.

With Trollano rediscovering his rhythm and the Beermen firing on all cylinders, San Miguel looks every bit like the powerhouse fans have long expected — dangerous, disciplined, and deadly when the game’s on the line.
