It looks like we might see Russell Westbrook rocking purple and black next season.

According to NBA insider Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, the former MVP is being pegged to sign a two-year minimum contract with the Sacramento Kings, complete with a player option.

For the Kings, the move makes sense—they’re in need of a reliable backup behind newly acquired point guard Dennis Schröder, and Westbrook’s experience fits the bill. For Russ, it’s another chance to extend his incredible career and make an impact on a hungry squad still searching for a way back into the postseason.

Westbrook just wrapped up his season with the Denver Nuggets, suiting up in 75 games and putting up steady numbers: 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He shot 44.9% from the field, with 32.3% from deep and 66.1% at the line. While Denver knocked out the Clippers in Round 1, they eventually fell to Westbrook’s old squad, the Oklahoma City Thunder, in a grueling seven-game series.

At 37 years old this November, Russ is still chasing moments to add to his legendary résumé. Let’s not forget—he’s the NBA’s all-time leader in triple-doubles (203), a nine-time All-Star, a nine-time All-NBA selection, and the 2017 MVP. With career averages of 21.2 points, 7.0 boards, and 8.0 assists across 1,200+ games, there’s no questioning his Hall of Fame credentials.

Sacramento, meanwhile, has been busy reshaping its roster. After moving on from De’Aaron Fox in a blockbuster trade to San Antonio and bringing in Zach LaVine from Chicago, the Kings are clearly going all-in on a new core. They’ve also added Schröder in a sign-and-trade, shipped Jonas Valančiūnas to Denver for Dario Šarić, and signed Drew Eubanks.

If Westbrook joins, he won’t be short on chemistry—he’s played with Schröder and Domantas Sabonis before, and is close friends with both LaVine and DeMar DeRozan. It feels like the Kings might be the perfect landing spot, especially since reports say they’re the only team showing interest right now.

For a franchise eager to end a two-year playoff drought, bringing in a fiery veteran like Westbrook could be the spark they need.

Love him or doubt him, Russ has never been one to back down. If this deal happens, expect Sacramento to get a serious boost of energy.
