Pierce recently shared his belief that LeBron will call it a career after the 2025-26 NBA season, which would mark year 23 of his legendary run.
“If I had to bet, I think this will be it for him,” Pierce said. “He’s been the GOAT for so long, carried the league after MJ, and the numbers speak for themselves. We’ve witnessed greatness for over 20 years, but every era eventually comes to an end.”

LeBron, who turns 41 in December, is already the NBA’s oldest active player and will earn $52.6 million in 2025-26. After that, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent — his first time hitting the open market since 2018.
The résumé is beyond iconic: four championships, four MVPs, four Finals MVPs, and the only player in NBA history to rank top five all-time in both points and assists. Across stints with the Cavs, Heat, and Lakers, he’s averaged 27 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists in what has been nothing short of an era-defining career.

But what if he doesn’t hang it up just yet? One NBA executive told reporters that if LeBron does decide to play in 2026-27, the Cavaliers, Mavericks, and Warriors are the three franchises most likely to chase him.
“Cleveland, Dallas, and Golden State — all of them would love to get him,” the executive said. “They couldn’t make a trade this summer because of his contract, but once he’s a free agent, those teams will be all-in.”

Even in year 21, LeBron proved he still belongs among the league’s elite. Last season with the Lakers, he put up 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists across 70 games, earning All-NBA Second Team honors and finishing sixth in MVP voting.
Whether the 2025-26 campaign is his farewell tour or just another chapter, fans know they’re watching history every time the King steps on the court. 👑
So what do you think — will this be LeBron’s last dance, or does he still have a couple more years left in the tank?
