Alyssa Solomon is officially going international. The three-time UAAP champion and National University standout is set to bring her powerful game to Japan, marking the next big step in her young career.

While the details of her contract and team are still under wraps, the volleyball community wasted no time flooding social media with support. Solomon herself reposted a good luck message on Instagram, while longtime NU teammate and Alas Pilipinas star Bella Belen shared her excitement as well. Fellow national team mainstay Fifi Sharma also chimed in with her own message of encouragement. Even Alas Pilipinas’ official page joined in, promising: “The whole team will be cheering for you.”

This move didn’t come as a shock to fans who’ve been following Solomon closely. After NU’s back-to-back UAAP championships capped off in Season 87, the 23-year-old opposite spiker openly declared her dream of playing overseas. She even withdrew from the Korean V-League draft and skipped the PVL Draft to focus on pursuing opportunities abroad.

Standing 6-feet tall and already decorated with individual accolades, Solomon has proven she can compete with the best. She has two SEA V-League Best Opposite Spiker awards under her belt and was instrumental in Alas Pilipinas’ silver-medal finish in the AVC Nations Cup. Add to that four SEA V-League bronze medals, and it’s clear she has the pedigree to shine on the international stage.

Her arrival in Japan could also set up some intriguing matchups. Depending on which club signs her, Solomon might share the court against former NU star and national team veteran Jaja Santiago, who recently joined the Denso AiryBees after a title-winning season with the Osaka Marvelous.

With Solomon joining the growing list of Filipino volleyball exports — including Santiago, Dindin Manabat, Maddie Madayag, Marck Espejo, Bryan Bagunas, and soon-to-be import Leo Aringo — it’s another huge win for Philippine volleyball.

One thing’s for sure: the journey of “Alas Alyssa” is just beginning, and Filipino fans will be rooting for her every step of the way in Japan.
