The Golden State Warriors are reportedly optimistic that veteran big man Al Horford will soon be wearing their jersey, with team insiders expressing strong confidence that the five-time All-Star will commit to the Bay Area once certain roster matters are settled.

According to NBA reporter Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Warriors are currently prioritizing the resolution of Jonathan Kuminga’s restricted free agency before finalizing any deal with Horford, who remains on the open market after parting ways with the Boston Celtics.

“Golden State still feels good about their chances with Horford,” Fischer shared. “They’re simply waiting to see how things shake out with Kuminga before making the move.”

Horford, who played 60 games for Boston in the 2024–25 season, was a steady contributor to their championship campaign. He posted averages of 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while shooting an efficient 42.3% from the field and 36.3% from deep. Even at age 39, the veteran center showcased his trademark defensive instincts and high basketball IQ, making him an appealing fit for a Warriors squad still aiming to contend.

Financially, Golden State is expected to offer Horford a contract potentially worth the full taxpayer mid-level exception. Fischer also noted discussions of a two-year offer that could include a player option for the second season, giving Horford flexibility as he approaches the twilight of his career.

Horford’s résumé speaks for itself: over 1,000 career games, 12.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per contest, and stints with the Hawks, Celtics, Sixers, and Thunder. Drafted third overall in 2007 out of Florida, he has been one of the league’s most respected veterans for nearly two decades.

Golden State is coming off a second-round playoff exit, falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games after a hard-fought first-round win over the Houston Rockets. With Stephen Curry still leading the charge and recent additions like Jimmy Butler and Buddy Hield joining the fold, the Warriors are clearly retooling for another title push.

Should Horford sign, he would likely slot into the starting lineup alongside Curry, Butler, Hield, and Draymond Green — bringing size, experience, and floor spacing to a team looking to make one more championship run.
