Although Gilas Pilipinas has finalized its 12-man roster for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers, there remains a slim — but real — possibility that Troy Rosario or RJ Abarrientos could still suit up at the last minute.

According to Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al Panlilio, FIBA allows lineup adjustments up until the technical meeting, which is scheduled for August 4, the day before the tournament tips off in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Any injury sustained by a rostered player before that date could open the door for a replacement — provided they are part of the pre-submitted extended pool.

That’s where Rosario and Abarrientos come in.

Both players trained extensively with the Gilas pool over the past few weeks and joined the squad during its training camp in Pampanga. However, they were left off the final 12 after Calvin Oftana received medical clearance to play and boarded the flight with the team to the Middle East.

Still, head coach Tim Cone emphasized the value that Rosario and Abarrientos brought to the team's buildup and confirmed they remain on standby.

“We have Troy and RJ ready to step in if needed,” Cone said. “They were locked in with everything we were doing. Their role in preparing the team has been significant.”

Aside from the two, other names from the extended roster include Zavier Lucero, Mason Amos, naturalized center Ange Kouame, Rhenz Abando, and even the recovering Kai Sotto. However, Rosario and Abarrientos are considered the most game-ready, especially with their recent involvement in Gilas practices.

Once the final roster is officially submitted during the technical meeting, no further changes will be allowed — even if a player gets injured during the tournament itself.

Gilas is set to open its campaign on August 5 against Chinese Taipei, hoping to start strong in a group that also features powerhouse teams like New Zealand and China. Other games on opening day include New Zealand vs. Iraq, Jordan vs. India, and host nation Saudi Arabia taking on China.

As fans hope the current lineup stays healthy, the coaching staff knows reinforcements are ready — just in case.
