NBA Trade Rumors: Proposed Deal Sends Devin Booker to Rockets in Blockbuster Scenario

A fresh trade proposal is making waves in the NBA community, one that would ship Phoenix Suns superstar Devin Booker to the Houston Rockets.

The idea, floated by Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes, imagines Houston acquiring the four-time All-Star in exchange for a package built around veterans and draft capital. The suggested deal would send Fred VanVleet, rookie Reed Sheppard, Steven Adams, and Jeff Green to Phoenix, along with Houston’s 2027 and 2029 first-round picks.

Booker, however, isn’t eligible to be dealt until January 2026 due to the massive two-year, $133 million extension he signed this past July. That contract ties him to the Suns through at least the 2029-30 season, with a player option in his age-34 campaign worth more than $69 million.

For Phoenix, the motivation behind such a move would be regaining control of its future draft picks, currently held by Houston. Without them, the Suns risk enduring years of mediocrity with no lottery rewards to accelerate a rebuild. While the player haul may appear modest compared to Booker’s star power, the return of those key draft assets could shorten a potential down period for the franchise.

The Rockets, meanwhile, would be taking a gamble on one of the league’s premier scorers. Booker averaged 25.6 points, 7.1 assists, and shot 46.1% from the field last season. Pairing him with Kevin Durant — ironically his former Suns teammate, now in Houston after the blockbuster summer trade — could give the Rockets one of the most dangerous duos in the NBA. Add in rising young talents like Amen Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr., and Alperen ลžengรผn, and Houston suddenly looks like a team ready to contend in the West.

Of course, the proposal remains hypothetical, and there’s no indication Booker wants out of Phoenix. He’s been the face of the franchise since being drafted in 2015 and has shown no public desire to leave. Still, given the Suns’ current trajectory and their lack of draft flexibility, creative trade ideas like this will continue to surface.

If such a deal were ever explored, it would mark the second major trade in less than a year between the Rockets and Suns — a rare scenario in today’s NBA but one that could dramatically alter the futures of both franchises.
