What if two of the greatest players of this era actually joined forces? According to reports, the Golden State Warriors have quietly tried — not once, but multiple times — to bring LeBron James to the Bay Area and pair him with Stephen Curry.

Imagine that for a second: Curry’s shooting and LeBron’s all-around dominance in the same lineup. Absolute chaos for defenses everywhere.

Insider buzz says Golden State has reached out to the Lakers over the past year and a half, testing if there was ever a window to make the dream happen. It makes sense — LeBron and Steph looked like they had a blast playing side by side with Team USA during last summer’s Olympic gold run. And with Steve Kerr (the Warriors’ own head coach) leading that squad, the chemistry was already on full display.

But here’s the reality check: LeBron holds a no-trade clause and has one more year left on his Lakers deal, worth a massive $52.6 million. On top of that, the King has more reasons than ever to stay in Los Angeles — Luka Dončić just arrived in purple and gold, and his son Bronny is officially part of the roster. For LeBron, family and legacy matter just as much as winning.

Still, the “what if” is hard to ignore. LeBron is entering his 22nd NBA season with career numbers that still don’t look real: 27 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game. He’s the league’s all-time leading scorer, a four-time champ, and somehow still producing at a superstar level. Pair that with Curry — the greatest shooter the game has ever seen — and you’d have one of the most unstoppable duos the NBA could ever witness.

As for the Warriors, they’re at a crossroads. Last season ended with a second-round exit at the hands of the Timberwolves, while the Lakers fell in the first round to those same Wolves. With Jonathan Kuminga’s restricted free agency stalling offseason moves, fans are left wondering if Golden State can reload or if the dynasty window is closing.

For now, LeBron-to-GSW is still just a fantasy. But in the NBA, we’ve learned one thing: never say never.
