The bravery of Gilas Pilipinas was not enough to stop the domination of Australia, which showed its strength from the start and defeated the Philippine national team, 84-60, in the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 quarterfinals. This loss ended Gilas Pilipinas' campaign and allowed Australia to continue its championship defense.

From the very first quarter, the Boomers showed their readiness, immediately hitting seven three-pointers to take a 29-12 lead. This was led by Jaylin Galloway, who had three treys, along with the solid play of Jack McVeigh and Will Magnay. Gilas Pilipinas was unable to recover, and Australia maintained the lead until the final minute of the game.

Although Gilas showed some fight through Kevin Quiambao and Dwight Ramos, it was not enough to erase the large deficit. Quiambao led Gilas with 17 points and five treys, while Ramos added 15 points. Justin Brownlee's production was limited, as he only scored 10 points in the game.

With every attempt by Gilas to catch up, Australia always had an answer. After halftime, where they led 48-28, back-to-back threes from Owen Foxwell and Galloway completely buried Gilas. Although Brownlee, Ramos, and Scottie Thompson tried to spark the offense, they couldn't make their shots due to Australia's strong defense and rebounding.

This victory proves that Australia is the strongest team in the tournament. They remain undefeated in the FIBA Asia Cup since joining in 2017, and they are getting closer to their third consecutive crown.

For Gilas Pilipinas, this loss ended their campaign with a 2-3 record. Although they successfully won against Saudi Arabia, they couldn't handle the strength, height, and shooting prowess of Australia.
