With several key players sidelined, Almond Vosotros has emerged as a steadying presence for TNT Tropang 5G in their quest to keep their grand slam hopes alive.
Thrust into extended minutes due to injuries to veteran guards Jayson Castro and Rey Nambatac, Vosotros has stepped up admirably in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup Finals against San Miguel. Known for his sharp shooting since his collegiate days with La Salle, the 35-year-old guard is now being asked to do much more, including taking on ball-handling duties and making critical decisions under pressure.
“Mahirap kasi yung mga nawala sa amin, puro key players na nasa regular rotation,” Vosotros shared. “Kaya sobrang kailangan ng focus, lalo na sa decision-making sa opensa.”
Almond Vosotros is not taking any opportunity for granted and sees every minute on the floor with TNT as a chance to prove he still belongs on the big league.

In TNT’s 86-78 Game 5 victory, Vosotros delivered 11 points off the bench, going 4-of-8 from the field. It was the second time he reached double figures in the series, following a 14-point performance in Game 3. Though that earlier effort came in a blowout loss, Game 5 saw his impact felt in a tightly contested match that extended the finals to a sixth game.
With TNT thin in the guard rotation, head coach Chot Reyes has turned to Vosotros not just as a scorer, but as a floor general.
“Mas maluwag ‘yung galaw sa 5-on-5 kumpara sa 3x3,” said Vosotros, a former standout in the PBA 3x3 circuit. “Pero malaking adjustment talaga ang mag-set ng play at magdala ng bola sa ganitong level.”

Despite the added pressure, Vosotros is relishing the opportunity to contribute in any way he can. His composure and willingness to take on unfamiliar responsibilities have been crucial as TNT continues to navigate a challenging finals series against a powerhouse San Miguel squad.
With big man Poy Erram also out for the remainder of the series due to a meniscus tear, Vosotros' leadership in the backcourt is proving invaluable.
“We trust the coaches’ system,” he said. “Kami naman, susunod lang sa game plan at gagawin ang kailangan para manalo. Kailangan lang dagdagan ang pasensya at ayusin ang decision-making.”
As TNT looks ahead to Game 6, Vosotros’ readiness and resilience could be the edge they need to force a Game 7—and keep their historic grand slam hopes alive.
