Quentin Millora-Brown, otherwise known as QMB, had big dreams of playing for Gilas Pilipinas, fueled by his desire to represent his Filipino roots. After a successful 2024 season with the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in the UAAP, the chance to wear the national team jersey was his ultimate aspiration.

But sometimes, dreams don’t unfold as expected. Despite his relentless efforts and his agent Tod Seidel's work, QMB won’t be able to play for Gilas anytime soon, as FIBA classified him as a naturalized player, not a local.

"Q was devastated because playing for Gilas has always been a dream," Seidel told SPIN.ph columnist Homer Sayson. "We’re actively reviewing the decisions and options, and I am encouraging him to remain hopeful that his dream can still come true."

This ruling is a huge setback not just for QMB but also for the national team. With key players like Kai Sotto recovering from his ACL injury and June Mar Fajardo struggling in the Philippine Cup finals, Gilas lacks a center with significant international experience. While QMB is not the solution to all of Gilas’ challenges, his size and skill would’ve been a major asset for the team, especially ahead of the FIBA Asia Cup.

Despite this blow, QMB is not dwelling on what could’ve been. Instead, he’s adjusting his focus and embracing new opportunities.

From July 20 to 24, he’ll play for the Macau Black Bears in a tournament in China, followed by an exhibition with Gilas on July 28. Then, he’ll begin his professional career in Europe, with his next team and league still under wraps.

QMB’s decision to skip the PBA Season 50 Rookie Draft left fans curious, especially since rumors about his salary demands circulated.

While no formal offers from MPBL teams were also made, QMB is moving beyond local leagues and taking his talents overseas. Though we’ll always wonder what could have been with Gilas, his future is bright, and Filipinos wish him nothing but success.
