The Mapúa Cardinals—fresh from an NCAA Season 99 championship—are set to represent the Philippines at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Rhine‑Ruhr, Germany. The Intramuros-based squad is ready to face an international gauntlet in Pool C, with a mouthwatering group consisting of Brazil, the Czech Republic, and Poland. 

The announcement cements Mapúa's growing legacy not only in the NCAA but now also on the international stage, as they don the national colors in one of the world's premier tournaments for university-level athletes.

Mapúa’s selection reflects more than just recent success—it’s an affirmation that NCAA basketball has matured into fertile ground for elite, internationally competitive talent.

Head coach Randy Alcantara and his squad are no strangers to high-level competition. Fresh off a stellar NCAA Season 99 campaign that saw them win the Championship behind the impressive play of former NCAA MVP Clint Escamis, the Cardinals are now preparing to test their mettle against some of the best collegiate programs from around the world.

  • July 20 – vs. Czech Republic: Known for disciplined discipline, structured execution, and sharp shooting, the Czech squad will test Mapúa’s adaptability and cold-blooded execution.

  • July 21 – vs. Poland: The final pool game pairs speed and power—a hybrid kind of challenge that could be the toughest test before the knockout phase.

Three straight nights of elite international opposition demand physical endurance, mental sharpness, and in-game versatility.

  1. Physical Readiness – The blistering pace of three consecutive games leaves no room for rest days. Mapúa must win early to manage their minutes smartly.

  2. Coaching Agility – Alcantara’s system emphasizes switching defenses, quick rotations, and off-the-ball movement. His game-to-game tactical decisions—especially in basketball IQ and substitution patterns—will be pivotal.
