TNT big man Poy Erram will miss the rest of the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup Finals after tests confirmed a meniscus tear in his left knee—an injury that now requires surgery.

The 36-year-old was initially believed to be dealing with a hamstring issue, but further medical scans revealed a more serious condition. As a result, TNT’s medical team made the decision to shut him down for the remainder of the series.

“We had an MRI earlier, and it showed a meniscus tear in my left knee,” Erram shared in Filipino after Game 5 on Wednesday night. “It’s swollen now, so I’ll need to undergo surgery.”

Erram sustained the injury during Game 4 at the Mall of Asia Arena, where he played despite nursing a ligament sprain in his right ankle. In hindsight, he said, he may have pushed too hard.

“During the game, I felt my knee twist, but I was on pain medication, so I didn’t notice the extent,” he explained. “It wasn’t until the next day that it really swelled up.”

Unable to suit up for Game 5, Erram watched from the sidelines as TNT staved off elimination with an 86-78 win at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, cutting San Miguel’s lead in the best-of-seven finals to 3-2.

Now dealing with injuries to both legs, Erram admitted the situation is frustrating, especially given the high stakes of the championship series.

“My ankle is still swollen and stiff, and there’s still bruising,” he said. “But that’s part of the job. Every time you step on the court, there’s a risk.”

Despite being sidelined, the 12-year veteran plans to remain involved by supporting his teammates from the bench.

“I’ll still be with the team,” said Erram. “I can’t play, but I can help by giving input—pointing out what I see on both ends of the floor. That’s all I can do right now.”

Erram is expected to be out of action for approximately three to four months as he recovers from surgery and undergoes rehabilitation.
