The Bay Area Dragons toppled the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, 101-91, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday to remain unbeaten in the 2022 PBA Commissioner's Cup elimination round.
Phoenix tried to make it a fight early on as they led by as much as 16 points midway through the second quarter, 41-25.
However, the Dragons woke up to put a stop to the onslaught, keeping the Fuel Masters scoreless the rest of the quarter. They ended up completing a 17-0 barrage to close the first half and move on top by one, 42-41.
It was all Bay Area from then on as import Myles Powell continued to showcase his dominance over PBA teams in the tournament.
Powell had 32 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Hayden Blankley, Glen Yang, and Duncan Reid had 15, 14, and 14 points respectively.

“I was really disappointed with the start of the game,” said Dragons coach Brian Goorjian. “We were a step off, we were giving fouls, we were giving a lot of baskets on dribble penetration and in transition.”
“I thought midway through the second period and the rest of the game, I thought we did a damn good job defensively and locked them up. It went from 16 down to almost 20 up,” Goorjian said.
Bay Area led by 19 points early in the payoff period, 89-70, when Phoenix, who dropped to 0-3 after the loss, threatened with a 16-5 run. This happened after a verbal altercation between head coach Topex Robinson and Powell in the 26.4-second mark of the third quarter.
The Fuel Masters trimmed the gap to just eight points with two minutes left, 94-86, via a Tyler Tio three-pointer. But they were not able to get any closer as Powell and Reid kept them at bay until the final buzzer.
Javee Mocon continued to top-score for Phoenix's locals with 22 points, two assists, and two steals, scoring 6-of-6 from the charity stripe in another losing effort. Tio shone in the match as he contributed 21 points, shooting 5-of-7 from long distance, with two dimes. Import Kaleb Wesson had 17 points and 18 rebounds.
Meanwhile, the Magnolia Hotshots pulled off a close 109-105 victory over the Converge FiberXers in the second game of the afternoon.
Import Nick Rakocevic had a disappointing first half, but was able to redeem himself in the second, ending up with 21 points and 24 rebounds for the game. He shot a dismal 6-for-20 from the field and was 0-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Veteran guard Mark Barroca held the front for Magnolia with 19 points, shooting 7-of-13, while Paul Lee scored 20 points and grabbed three rebounds. Jio Jalalon had 15 markers, six assists, and five boards for head coach Chito Victolero's side.
